28/2/17
We started the session by setting up and getting ready it took a while to get the pics but when we got them we started going through the set list. 'You got me' went well jamie was in so we could rehearse fully, 'Boyfriend' also went well, 'Move on up' was a bit difficult because Jamie had to learn it but we went through the whole song, 'Satisfaction' was good but harris couldn't sing as much because he had a sore throat. Kids went well although i had to use marnies phone because i didn't know the lyrics. 2/3/17 We started by getting assessed in the first half of the lesson, we warmed up using the AEIOU techniques and some hand eye coordination movements then we started going through the set list. We started with 'You got me', after performing it we evaluated it then did it again; 'Boyfriend' came next which we also performed twice then 'Move on up', we then went on to 'Satisfaction'. We had to go through 'Kids' a couple of times in the beginning to get the structure right then performed it successfully the last time. The performance went very well everyone enjoyed it and we had good communication between each other. We knew the order of each track and we knew our parts. We tried to give energy and move around a lot to keep the audience engaged. Next time i need to learn the lyrics to 'Kids' and we need to give more energy as a group and eye contact to the audience, we also need to smile more. There were technical difficulties that were sorted out so hopefully next time that won't happen, we need to tune the guitars before we start also. My mic was also a bit too low on 'You got me'

We started the session by choosing a set list for the actual performance, once we did we ran through each one. We decided to drop Billy jean because it was taking too long to learn. Charma then told us what went well and what could have been better then we went over each song again. We honed in on the parts that needed more work such as kids by MGMT which needed neatening up and improving the stop at the beginning.
Marnie wasn't in so i had to sing her parts for her and Jamie was in so we had to practice with him and allocate parts for him. Set list- You got me- Erykah badu and the roots Boyfriend- Justin beiber Can't get no (satisfaction)- The rolling stones Move on up- Curtis mayfield Kids- MGMT We looked at songs individually before the session but couldn't decide on any, so the beginning of the rehearsal was spent choosing a song. This did not take long however and we quickly agreed on 'Kids' by MGMT. We then split up into two groups; me and Marnie and then the instrumentalists. The guys worked on the instrumental and structure while me and Marnie learned the lyrics and melody. The melody of the song was quite difficult, it had a lot of awkwardly timed breaks in it and elongated words, we managed to learn the chorus quite quickly and harmonized on it but the verses took us a while to get. Charma (who was working with us) suggested we write down the lyrics as they are said so we know how to sing them which helped however we weren't able to print them off. Once we reunited with the group we managed to go through it but we were still having trouble with the verses. The performance was okay, the harmonies worked well. The piano substituted nicely for a bass line and all the instruments worked nicely. Me and Marnie messed up the lyrics a few times though and our energy as a group could have been higher. To progress next time we need to work on our performance techniques and learn the lyrics, maybe add some more dynamics as well. We started rehearsals off by going over all of the songs we had already done to make sure we still remembered them. Then we started looking at 'I cant get no (satisfaction)' by The rolling stones, which we chose to play the week before. Malachai had trouble learning the riffs so me and marnie looked at the lyrics, we then had to decide who was doing what, Harris said he wanted to sing and marnie wanted to play bass, i played piano and Joe switched to drums. Once Malachai got the chords and melody down he showed me and marnie the chord progression then we played through while Harris learned the lyrics. We had to refer to the song a few times throughout but we managed to get it by the end.
The performance was great everyone loved Harris's idea t walk on stage, there was a lot of energy from us and the audience as well. Next time i need to work on backing and playing at the same time instead of stopping and singing louder. Harris needs to rehears the melody a bit more as well so it sounds more like the original. Lyrics- www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/rollingstones/icantgetnosatisfaction.html Chords: We started by deciding whether or not we wanted to do the song or not because Jamie wasn't in and he had the other lead part. We eventually decided to do the instrumental and work on it until he got in so that we would be prepared. Marnie played keys so Malachai showed her and Joe the chords. We listened to the song a few times through then got it pretty quick because we had previously worked on it in our own time. I knew the lyrics so i didn't take time to learn it, Harris learnt the drum part as it was a signature part of the song. When Jamie got here he had lyrics to pout in so it was easy to put his rap in the instrumental parts. The performance went well, the class liked it and we didn't mess up. You could hear all of vocalists and instruments. To make it better next time i need to give more energy to the performance and not rely on the lyrics. We decided in the beginning of the day to do a song that was older than the ones we previously did, so we looked at songs from the 70s and 80s and eventually came up with Move on up by Curtis Mayfield which was released in 1971. Once we got to rehearsals we allocated each other parts, marnie wanted to play drums but we needed keys so i volunteered to play the piano while she sang. Malachai showed me and Joe (on bass) the chords and we learnt the instrumental quite quickly. After that we looped it so Marnie could learn the melody. We also changed the key from G to Em. The performance went well, we all remembered our parts, marnie interacted with the audience well. To make it better next time we should add ore dynamics as the song is quite repetitive. Chords- Em A# B# F Lyrics-play.google.com/music/preview/Tkmld2u7ksrz4hlv7cgvx4dajua?lyrics=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=lyrics&pcampaignid=kp-lyrics We had an idea of what genre to pick but hadn't chosen the song yet, we unanimously decided on Billy jean by Micheal Jackson. The song didn't suit my tone of voice and since we had to keep it as close to the original as possible i decided to play piano and let Marnie and Jamie sing lead. the chords were hard to learn for everyone and Joe had trouble learning the bass riff, so we all simplified it for the performance so we could work on the difficult parts at a later stage. The performance was okay but had a few technical difficulties e.g. you couldn't hear the piano. Marnie's mic was low as well although she did compensate for that and added a few adlibs to make the song more interesting, she also missed some of the lyrics. Overall i think we just need a bit more practice. Chords-F#, Ab ,A, Ab- bridge-C, Ab x4 then C# Lyrics- www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/michaeljackson/billiejean.html , We hadn't chosen a song yet so were playing around with ideas when marnie suggested we try a Justin bieber song, 'Boyfriend' malachai already knew the chords so he just started playing and marnie sang along. it sounded good so we chose it, i had to learn the lyrics and melody so we separated into two groups of musicians and singers to learn our parts. We also had to change the lyrics slightly from 'boyfriend' to 'girlfriend' to make it more relatable. When we came back together we went through the whole song a few times. We learned the song fairly quickly, we worked well together as a team by helping each other through parts we didn't know for example, marnie helped me with the melody, malachai and Joe worked on the chords for bass and guitar. The performance went extremely well, nobody forgot their parts and the class responded enthusiastically. To improve next time i will learn the lyrics off by heart so i don't have to read them too much and then i will be able to communicate more with the audience. Chords-F#, Fm7, Bm7 Lyrics-www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/justinbieber/boyfriend.html The first rehearsal was spent deciding which song we should do but we couldn't decide so we made a list and listened to songs to get inspiration. some of which included songs by, earth wind and fire, the police, Alicia keys etc
